CASA QUERENCIA

BIENVENIDOS

Paradise Found

Visit Gallery

For centuries the Huichol Indians of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Mountains have believed that nature and the inner spirit are forever intertwined as a life force known as “kupuri.” With your first glimpse of the gently sweeping oceanfront landscape that is the setting for Casa Querencia, you’ll understand why.

The beach itself is an oasis of white sand, gentle waves and turquoise waters that boast some of the best paddle boarding, whale watching, snorkeling and fishing in the area. And its beauty, especially under the setting sun, is unrivaled. The beach arches from the west around and to the north for a mile, and is often yours alone to enjoy, uninterrupted by more than the occasional fisherman or shell seeker.

An easy stroll from the main house through a lush private garden with an outdoor bar and fire patio, is your own private cabana on Kupuri Beach, your home base for paddle boarding, beach strolls, or just reading and relaxing.

¡BUEN PROVECHO!

Our visitors quickly realize that dining ‘in’ is one Casa Querencia’s best features. Mexican food, with its fresh, piquant flavors, is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. At Casa Querencia, one will discover authentic Mexican fare that will expand your appreciation of the this rich and colorful cuisine.

Our resident chef, Margarita, is a master at transforming simple, fresh ingredients into mouthwatering dishes. Each morning starts with a lavish fresh fruit plate, accompanied by creamy yogurt and a “make–your-own” granola bar, all served with strong, hot coffee. A second course always includes eggs, served with fresh, hot tortillas, refried beans and hot sauces. Lunch may be fish tacos, chicken taquitos, ceviche or refreshing salads, all accompanied by homemade salsas and guacamole. Dinner is a four-course affair, featuring homemade soups, salad, and a variety of specialties such as fish Veracruz, chicken mole or carne asada, followed by Mexican flan or palate-cleansing sorbets.

A word about cocktail hour: Our resident butler, Pancho, makes margaritas that guests say beat any in the resort. He’ll offer cucumber, watermelon, mango or hibiscus margaritas as well as sangria and pina coladas, but it’s hard to top the traditional margarita of fresh lime, agave nectar and reposada tequila, served in a chile and salt-rimmed glass.

Our staff is always happy to accommodate any special dietary needs, and will quickly learn your preferences.

Dining Out

There is a surprising number of good restaurants on the beach in town, with tables in the sand, fresh seafood and Mexican flavor. One of our favorites is Si Señor, where they bring out the catch of the day and make guacamole fresh at your table. Try Anclote for breakfast, El Coral for lunch, El Dorado anytime, and Marisco Tinos for whole barbecued snapper. Rosa Mexicana is excellent, the Blue Shrimp has live music…You can’t go wrong with the restaurants in town.

For a change of pace, Casa Teresa is an authentic Italian restaurant in a charming side street courtyard, run by an Italian family. If you’re craving a cappuccino or a smoothie or fresh salad, Boca Deli in town is the place; if you’re in the mood for pizza, Pizza Mita, in town, delivers. Or better yet, pick up the dough there and make pizzas in our pizza oven at the house.

A real treat is a stroll down Kupuri Beach at sunset for a drink or dinner at Casa de Mita hotel—at the end of the beach. (Call ahead for dinner reservations.) For an elegant gourmet experience, Cafe Des Artistes, on the beach at Cinco Hotel in town, is one of Mexico’s best restaurants.

Sufi is “Mexiterranean” restaurant at Porta Fortuna, in the gates. And of course all the hotels have excellent restaurants—Bahia at the Four Seasons, Sea Breeze at the St. Regis, and the ultra-exclusive Imanta in Higuera Blanca…And our new favorite casual eatery is Km5, a surf bar and pizza place on the road past Higuera Blanca.

Just Relaxing

Visit Gallery

Casa Querencia sits atop a hillside/beachfront double lot, with pools and cascading private gardens all leading down to the undiscovered, soft white sands of Kupuri Beach.

Warm, melon-colored walls, colorful fabrics and traditional Mexican artwork create a vibrant, yet relaxing ambiance. Lines blur between indoors and out, with the main palapa open on one side to the deep blue Pacific, and on the other to a lush palm garden with a soothing stone water fountain, and flanked by tropical pathways.

Private spaces beckon—a colorful sun terrace with a daybed nook, perfect for midday napping or sleeping under the stars; a giant marble outdoor tub set in a private garden; a sandy hammock terrace, shaded and quiet for reading and daydreaming.

Beaches

Visit Gallery

Largely undiscovered, Kupuri Beach gently curves along the Pacific for a mile or more, its white sands stretching from just north of the point, east to the stairs built into the bluff. Begin the day with a walk along Kupuri, coffee in hand, for the incredible view at the top of the stairs. Just beyond the bluff is another mile-long beach; you can walk for two hours, past colorful Mexican beach houses, to the next town over, Higuera Blanca.

As a guest of Casa Querencia, you’ll have access to all the beaches on the point, as well. The Residents’ Beach Club has breathtaking sunsets, and water activities like snorkeling and paddle boarding during the day, as well as a full restaurant. The St. Regis Beach Club is a little quieter, but equally beautiful. The lively beach in town is home to many fishermen, local vendors and restaurants.

The favorite beach of most visitors, though, is Kupuri. It remains a tranquil paradise where it’s not uncommon to walk its length and back without encountering another soul. Its waters are typically in the 80s; perfect for swimming, bodysurfing, snorkeling, or just hanging out.

Yoga classes are led in the palapa on Kupuri beach, just steps from our beach cabana. There’s also a “Power Ropes” total body workout class at the Residents’ Beach Club.

The Ocean

Visit Gallery

The balmy, clear waters of the Pacific offer endless possibilities for adventure, in and around Kupuri.

Paddle boarding is an unintimidating sport, and the best place to try it is with our state-of-the art boards on the bay right in front of the house. You’ll see fish and the occasional sea turtle as you paddle on the calm surface, and we have had more than one exhilarating close encounter with whales and dolphins while on the boards.

Punta Mita is one of the best places to learn surfing, and experienced surfers will find waves to suit all abilities. The best place to try out the sport is right in front of town, where the waves are tame and instructors can be found. We recommend Josué (pronounced “ho-sway”) with Tranquilo, who has a knack for getting first-timers to successfully stand up and ride waves. You can find his shop at the end of the main street in town, or contact him at tranquilo_surf_adventures@yahoo.com.  For bigger waves, Tranquilo or any of the surf shops can take you by boat out to La Lancha or La Punta.

The Marietas Islands, with their dramatic caves and rock arches for snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing around, are just 15 minutes away by boat. When it’s whale season (December–March) you will be sure to see whales breaching, along with dolphins, turtles and blue-footed boobies. We recommend going out with Ty, of driftingseas.com, a local naturalist who is wonderful at narrating the local marine life scene, or Punta Mita Expeditions (puntamitaexpeditions.com)

Golf, Tennis, More

Visit Gallery

The two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses are both challenging for experienced golfers and friendly to beginners. Nestled between the panorama of sandy beaches and the surrounding Sierra Madre, the Pacifico course features 8 holes that border the Pacific, while the Bahia course is more undulating; built around meandering lakes and water features.

Even if you don’t want to play 9 or 18 holes, you can enjoy the “Hole 3B Experience,” with the challenge of hitting out to the world’s only natural island green.

The tennis center is equally impressive, featuring 10 synthetic grass and hard courts that are lit for evening play, as well as a pro shop and resident professional. Next to the tennis facility you’ll also find a fully-equipped, air-conditioned fitness center featuring Technogym® cardiovascular and machine weight equipment, and adjacent men’s and women’s locker and shower rooms.

A paved jogging path runs from behind the house (parallel to the road) to the roundabout leading to town or the hotel properties. It’s got some challenging little hills, and kilometers are marked out along the way.

For those who’d like to follow their exercise routine with a relaxing massage, spas are available at all the hotels, as well as at the Resident’s Beach Club. Or, a massage can be arranged in the comfort of your room at Casa Querencia. Kemi Vernon is an excellent masseuse and can be reached at kemickemido@hotmail.com, or Julieta Ruiz, jupzur@gmail.com.

Shopping

Visit Gallery

Just outside the Punta Mita gates is the lively town of El Anclote (also known as Punta de Mita). About a mile from Casa Querencia and easily reachable by golf cart, car, or on foot, the town offers a colorful variety of shops as well as restaurants and local flavor.

On the road leading out of the Punta Mita gates, you’ll find an upscale shopping enclave, Plaza Ollin. Maria Bonita is a collection of authentic Mexican folk art from all over the country (many of their treasures are featured in Casa Querencia). Mar de Sueño is a luxurious swimwear store, featuring La Perla. Kim Cawood showcases art and furniture as well as gifts. Shop for fine wines and coffee at Boca Deli, or at the year-round farmer’s market on the plaza.

Plaza of Shops, further down the road, houses a collection of galleries, including Nina Caterina, with whimsical handicrafts. The main road, El Anclote, paralleling the beach, is packed with restaurants, surf shops and Mexican markets. Vendors stroll the beach, selling silver jewelry, colorful pareos and other traditional souvenirs. For high-end wares, the shops at the Four Seasons are fabulous and pricey.

For more shopping variety, head up the road 10 kilometers to the boutiques of Sayulita or San Pancho, or back toward the airport to Bucerias, with its year-round Mexican market.

Quickly becoming the destination of choice for discerning travelers, Punta Mita is on a point at the northern tip of the Bay of Banderas, the second-largest bay in the Americas. The securely-gated community is anchored by the Four Seasons and St. Regis hotels and two championship Jack Nicklaus golf courses, all nestled between the majesty of the Sierra Madre Mountains and nine miles of pristine beaches and the turquoise waters of the Pacific.

Punta Mita is blessed with an almost ideal climate; temperatures range from the 70s in the winter to the 80s in the summer, with cooling sea breezes year-round.

Kupuri is considered to be among the finest residential communities within the Punta Mita Resort. Casa Querencia sits atop a hillside/beachfront double lot, with pools and cascading private gardens all leading down to the undiscovered, soft white sands of Kupuri Beach.

Thank you for an AMAZING vacation. Your home was designed with great thought to comfort. The staff made us feel right at home. Pancho made great margaritas and attended to our needs while Teresa made gourmet meals—some of the best we have enjoyed in our many PV trips! Many thanks to Andrea for making sure we were well taken care of. We look forward to coming back with our family!

Thank you for another amazing week in paradise! Andrea and Pancho ensured that we experienced the best of Punta Mita. Maggy’s food was excellent and the rest of the staff made us feel so welcome and relaxed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We were pampered, well fed, entertained and felt completely refreshed within a few days. What a special place you have created here.

The Husteds

We loved that the house feels secluded and private and yet is wide open and looking out to the sea. We loved that there was so much to do at the house itself—margaritas in the cocktail pool, exercise in the lap pool, no end of balconies and comfy chairs for sunning and reading and just hanging out. We loved that it was so close to a perfect beach for walking and body surfing. One of our favorite nights was walking right out of the house and down the empty beach and ending up in a little hotel for a fabulous dinner. And we loved the colors—inside and out!

the Sperrys

My husband and I were looking for a very special trip for a graduation gift for our youngest daughter, but also hoped to sneak in a relaxing getaway for ourselves and our older children. Casa Querencia was the answer! This is not “a house” but a vacation destination in its own right.

Our daughter and her friends had plenty of space (including separate wings for girl’s and boy’s rooms), non-stop activities (swimming, paddle boarding, basketball, yoga on the beach), and much-desired privacy (heading down to the beachfront palapa for afternoon swims and naps.)

Meanwhile, we adults were equally spoiled in our master suites, sunbathing or reading in hammocks poolside, and sipping margaritas by the fire pit as the sun set each evening. Everyone indulged in the heavenly guacamole, salsa, and fresh fish, chicken and beef dishes prepared from scratch each meal. And, the sweet ocean breezes and spectacular sunsets—not to mention the spacious jacuzzi pool—brought us together each evening.

Already, the kids are asking when they can go back! From the quality of the home, the elegant service and amenities, and the beauty and diversity of on-site and nearby activities, Casa Querencia and Punta Mita are truly a slice of heaven. We’ll definitely be back.

We only had five days to enjoy Casa Querencia, but it was the best! We just returned from six weeks in the South Pacific, and this beat the whole trip! Pancho, Maggy, Patty and Dario made our visit the greatest. They treated us like family…. better actually than our own family. Hopefully we will return soon and spend more time.
